When people think of Corvallis, they think of a place that´s vibrant with the excitement of Oregon´s leading research university, Oregon State University, complete with a myriad of programs for all ages and highly competitive Pac-12 sports. The area´s regional medical center and a host of businesses in high tech industries known for their environmental sensitivity. Corvallis is a very livable city with small town familiarity. Corvallis real estate is in a perfect location at the confluence of the Willamette and Mary’s Rivers, 45 minutes from the Pacific Ocean in Newport, 90 minutes from skiing, between Eugene and Portland in the Willamette Valley.
Corvallis boasts a high percentage of highly educated people, one of the highest concentrations of PhDs in the nation. The influence of members of the university, Hewlett-Packard and Good Samaritan medical center communities is profound and can be seen in local support for schools, the library and many other activities. The community involvement is one of the many reasons Corvallis real estate is so attractive and why relocating to the area is such a great idea. People in Corvallis tend to be more involved in community decisions than in many larger cities. There´s a wonderful local paper, the Corvallis Gazette-Times, that helps people stay connected to what´s happening in the community. If you´re interested in volunteering, this is the place to be.
“Corvallis boasts a high percentage of highly educated people, one of the highest concentrations of PhDs in the nation.”
Corvallis city leaders tend to want to preserve the character of our community through slow growth policies, environmental consciousness and attracting businesses that fit this community. There are a number of historic districts in town where there is particular awareness of these needs. In other parts of town, people renovate older ranch-style homes with new high energy efficiency features. There are many people starting to add solar panels and other sustainability features to their homes, making Corvallis real estate green and environmentally friendly. Outside of the city, in Benton County, there are many opportunities for living a more sustainable lifestyle within a short distance of town.

Philomath schools are known for their smaller classroom sizes and excellence in programs with a surprisingly high percentage of students going on to college for a smaller district.
